The famously fashionable twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (my ultimate style icons FYI) may not
have appeared in films together since their teens, but the pair are still very
much a team when it comes to fashion. Elizabeth & James, their second brand
after The Row, is a brand that aims to combine chic and feminine styles (Elizabeth )
with a masculine edge (James).
Androgyny at it’s best no doubt. Mary-Kate and Ashley do indeed have a sister
named Elizabeth
(a now up and coming actress, following
her sisters’ footsteps) and a brother called James, but the twins insist
the brand is not necessarily named after them. I absolutely adored Elizabeth
& James AW13, with oversized military and crombie jackets, grungy ankle
boots and leather accessories. And the leather dungarees are definitely my
favourite piece, the perfect winter take on the latest summer trend. I have to
admit, I preferred Elizabeth & James to The Row this season, most likely
because E&J is much more wearable. Don’t get me wrong, The Row is just absolutely
divine, oozing with class and sophistication, but I feel I could see myself
wearing Elizabeth & James more (if
only the price tag was a little more in my range of course or course!).A
girl can dream!
Milly has been
on the scene since 2001, and this season’s collection is excellent. Full of
futuristic metallics and eye popping prints, the clothes were undeniably show-stopping.
What is also interesting to note is the combination of baggy sweatshirts and
relaxed, feminine skirts. Footwear was constant throughout, black heels and
ankle socks, however it allowed the clothes to rightfully do all the talking. And
dungarees seem to be a popular garment this season amongst designers; though
Michelle Smith, the brains behind the brand, took an innovative approach with
the use of an out of the ordinary holographic-type material. After this collection, Milly has quickly
moved to the top of my NYFW favourites, alongside Elizabeth and James. I look
forward to what Michelle Smith has up her sleeve for next season already!
So that’s it
for my NYFW posts, however LFW starts tomorrow morning, so get set for even
more fashion week posts. And of course, LFW is always my favourite, I mean, I
was born in the city, and I may not live there now, but it doesn’t mean I’m not secretly
a London girl
at heart!

I love the concept of Elizabeth & James, combining masculinity and femininity. I hadn't heard of Milly before but I love the print on that shirt and the holographic textures!
